On April 22, 2009 (Earth Day), the doors opened on Reynolds Plantation’s first EarthCraft certified LINKS GreenHouse. This luxurious, attractive, and sustainable model home is part of the Reynolds Plantation Signature Home Collection and sacrifices nothing in the way of conscience or quality.
The GreenHouse, built by Linger Longer Homes, adheres to EarthCraft certification – a stringent 150 point environmental scale developed by the Atlanta Homebuilders Association. This certification requires faithful attention to many “green” standards including energy efficiency, building materials, indoor air quality, water quality and use, site planning, and homebuyer education. The home is remarkably quiet and comfortable with an emphasis on natural light, beaming in from the many windows and doors. Perhaps best of all, being a “green” home doesn’t entail a series of unattractive contraptions. Most of the elements of efficiency (housewrap, ductwork, insulation, floor joists) are hidden within the walls. Click to view photos.
The Earth Craft standards coupled with Reynolds Plantation’s dedication, quality and stability make the LINKS GreenHouse the ultimate home for healthy and efficient living. All the elements needed to make this home are only made possible through the distinct partnerships Reynolds Plantation has with such names as; Georgia Power and Energy Star, Hug and Associates Architects, MainStreet Furniture, Kohler, Viking, Wayne Dalton, Shaw and many more.
Though the LINKS GreenHouse is Reynolds’ inaugural “green” house, we have always been careful stewards of the environment, and have built environmentally-friendly homes “well before it was fashionable,” says Linger Longer Homes' vice president, Tom Allhoff. As a builder, Allhoff admits that building green is indeed difficult due to the high and comprehensive standards. “But the Reynolds family, as industry leaders, feel it’s their responsibility to take on the tough job. It’s a great example to set for both buyers and fellow builders alike,” explains Allhoff.
The house is open Wednesday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5:00 p.m.
