Lou and Toni live in a lakeside home in Davis Ridge. “We knew we would have a lot of company, so we designed a comfortable, open house plan that was conducive to having guests,” states Toni. “Our family and friends love coming here – it’s like a vacation for them. Some choose to come here instead of going to Florida!”
Lou worked as a Financial Manager for Caterpillar, Inc. in Peoria, Illinois for 45 years. Before retiring, Lou and Toni looked for possible retirement locations. While looking through the Wall Street Journal one morning, Lou ran across an ad for Reynolds Plantation. “We called and scheduled a tour of Reynolds. We had never been to this part of Georgia before and vowed we were just going to look around,” laughs Lou. “Two days later we were leaving Reynolds Plantation as property owners!”
When asked what drew them to Reynolds Plantation, the answer came without hesitation. “Many of the people here are just like us. They have worked hard all their lives, and now they are interested in enjoying their leisure time.” The community itself also impressed the couple. “It was so obvious to us – even at the beginning – that the Reynolds family had a vision for the community,” states Lou. “We could tell they were committed to making Reynolds Plantation a quality community and thus, a good investment for those who chose to live here. Perhaps that stemmed in part from their loyalty to the land itself, but we knew this was a better designed community than others we had seen. We knew immediately this was where we wanted to spend our retirement years.”
Although they came to Reynolds Plantation as non-golfers, Lou and Toni found plenty of other ways to pass the time. “We love outdoor activities,” states Toni. The Joneses enjoy hiking, jogging, fishing and working in the yard. In addition, the Joneses are active supporters of the local Humane Society and are members of the Lake Oconee Chaine des Rotisseurs club. And yes, they have taken up golf!
“Reynolds Plantation was a natural choice for us,” states Lou. “The physical environment really appealed to us. The opportunity to take short trips to the beach, the mountains, the Carolinas and Atlanta was important, and we just appreciated the natural environment and scenery here. We are not only proud, but we are excited, to call Reynolds Plantation home.”
