Lake Oconee Academy

Founded in 2007 as a public charter school in Greensboro, Ga., Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) is proud to offer another educational opportunity for the students of Greene County. Eventually serving students from Pre-K4 through 12th grade, LOA promotes an atmosphere of high expectations and high achievement for all children, and embraces the belief that every child can learn. To accomplish this the culture of the Academy has been built upon specific points of distinction that include the innovative Core Knowledge curriculum, data-driven and standards-based instruction, required parental contracts outlining the roles and expectations for parents and guardians, college preparatory diplomas for all students, and real world experiences through job shadowing and internship opportunities.

LOA students demonstrated exceptional academic achievement again in 2010:

  • 100% of students met or exceeded Georgia Performance Standards in reading, language arts and mathematics.
  • All grades scored at the 99th percentile on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS).
  • Awarded the 2009 Gold Award for the Highest Percentage of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards by the Governor’s Office for Student Achievement – the highest award for a second year school.
